David D. Winkler Sr., 82, of Danville, went home to our Lord at 12:37 p.m. Sunday, May 13, 2018, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
He was born July 23, 1935, in Tilton, Ill., the son of Coleman and Viola (Kincade) Winkler.
David was united in marriage to Coleta Hall on July 23, 1955. She survives.
He will be dearly missed by sons, David Winkler Jr., Terry (Jennifer) Winkler, Robert (Tammy) Winkler; daughters, Beccy (Rick) Reed, Vicki (Jim) Smith; brother, Virgil (Janet) Winkler; grandchildren, Amanda and Andrew Winkler, Kim (Jon) Becker, Sara (Andy) Bower, Nathan (Katie) Winkler, Rachel (Ryan) Pearson, Michael (Chasidy) Winkler, Bricie (Jason) Leigh, Becca Winkler, Melissa (Tyson) Bell, Joey (Bryanna) Smith and Danielle (Freddie) George; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister and granddaughter, Miley Reed.
David belonged to Sheet Metal Local 218 of Champaign for 65 years. He worked for Frank J. Strahl for many years, later retired at 62 from Venture Mechanical. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
A celebration of David's life will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 18, at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville. A visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park.
