David Aaron Leathers, 68 years and 20 days, of Mt. Vernon, died 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was born Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1947, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Hubert and Pauline (Lawson) Leathers. He married Pat Kelso on Aug. 15, 1970, in Mt. Vernon. He is survived by his wife, Pat Leathers of Mt. Vernon; two sons, Jerrod Leathers of Mt. Vernon and Erin Leathers and wife Michelle of McLeansboro; and five grandchildren, Tyler, McKenna, Evan, Addison and Tegan Leathers. He was preceded in death by his parents. A celebration of life service will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Merle Fullerton officiating. The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. until the time of service Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. The Chaplain of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 will conduct a military flag presentation service at the funeral home. David was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a salesman for Black Equipment Company in Mt. Vernon and later worked in the IT Department at Good Samaritan Hospital until retiring in 2012. He loved anything involving computers and he enjoyed traveling, family, golf and motorcycles. For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Mt.
