The Rev. David E. Armstrong, 70, of McLeansboro, died 4:15 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 at his home. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was a minister of the Grace Baptist Church in Raleigh. He was born April 10, 1944, in New Bedford, Mass., the son of Clyde Robert and Lilian Edna (Bouthillette) Armstong. He married Mary Ann (Pacheco) Armstrong on July 3, 1965, in South Dartmouth, Mass. The Rev. Armstrong was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Raleigh. He loved to renovate houses, travel and he was an author. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Armstrong of McLeansboro; three daughters, Ann-Marie Harland and husband Louis of McLeansboro, Stephanie Ricard and husband Richard of Warrensburg, Mo., and Elizabeth Simbro and husband Aaron of Belton, Texas; two sons, David Armstrong and wife Karen of Higganum, Conn., and Nathan Armstrong and wife Jill of West Hartford, Conn.; a sister-in-law, Lisa Armstrong-Wils and husband Barry of Port Orchard, Wash.; a sister, Mary Lee Roese and husband Rick of Elizabeth City, N.C.; a brother; Clyde Robert Armstrong Jr. and wife Jan of Port Charlotte, Fla.; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Lillian Armstrong and son Jesse Jordan Armstrong. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Grace Baptist Church in Raleigh. Following the service, the Rev. Armstrong’s body will be cremated and his ashes will be interred at Maple Grove Cemetery by his parents in West Port, Mass., with full military rites accorded. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the time service on Saturday at Grace Baptist Church in Raleigh. Memorials may be made to the family and will be accepted at Grace Baptist Church, 42 Hwy 34 North, Raleigh, IL 62977. The Harre Funeral Home of McLeansboro is in charge of all the arrangements.
