Daniel Gene Reed, 73, of Macedonia, died 8:24 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 11, 1942, in Danville, the son of Howard Don and Minnie Belle (Collins) Reed. He married Janice Kay Howell on Jan. 32, 1962, in Carmi; she survives in Macedonia.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Konnie Harrington and Belle McCartney and husband Perry of Crossville; a brother, Donald Glenn Reed and wife Donna of Princeton, Ky.; two sisters, Peggy Downen and husband Paul "Chig" of Freeburg and Rebecca Conner and husband Kenny of Carmi; four grandchildren, Charles Daniel, Ashley, Brooke and Caleb; and five great-grandchildren, Landen, Andi, Addie, Nolen and Wyatt.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dan was an electrician and had been employed by Mobil Oil Co. He had formerly owned and operated Reed's Texaco Station in Crossville. He served four years in the United States Navy.
Daniel loved spending time with family, grandkids and friends. He especially loved to go deer hunting.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, with the Rev. Randall Ragan officiating. As per Daniel's wishes, his ashes will be scattered on their family farm in a private service.
Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m., at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to Brownsville School and will be accepted at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro.
Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of all arrangements.
