Cheryl's Story

Cheryl L. Burke, 70, of Westville, passed away at 8:53 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
She was born Oct. 31, 1946, in Danville, the daughter of William Mielke and Lois Miles.
She had married John E. Burke on June 7, 1969, in Westville, until his passing Nov. 1, 2016.
She will be missed by her children, Leslie (Jerry) Burke-Dominick of Denver, Colo., John (Lisa) Burke of Westville, Joe (Stacy) Burke of Westville, Jeff (Beth) Burke of Tempe, Ariz.; her grandchildren, Kaitlyn Burke of Denver, Colo., Briar Burke of Westville, Dakottah Burke of Westville, Raef Burke of Westville, Brendan Burke of Ohio, Jacob Burke of Tempe, Ariz., Alexis Dominick of Stamford, Conn., and Alexandria Curry of Westville; two brothers, Curt (Jan) Mielke and Steve Mielke both of Danville; a special niece, Kim and Craig Campbell and their children Craig Jr. and Marlo, all of Chicago; and nieces and nephews, Billy, Spencer, Mathew and Stephanie Mielke. Cheryl was preceded by her parents and sister-in-law, Pat Mielke.
Cheryl was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and worked at St. Mary's school serving lunches. She was a former librarian at the Westville Library, also former bookkeeper at the Westville Sanitation Department.
Cheryl was a devoted wife and mother who never missed her children's sporting events. One of her favorite pastimes was reading. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial donations to be given to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 231 N. State St., Westville.
A Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westville. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. As were her wishes, Cheryl donated her body to science.
