Charles “Chod” Welch, 76, McLeansboro, died 3:05 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. A member of the First United Methodist Church in Carmi, he was a farmer. Chod was born July 30, 1938, in Carmi, the son of Don and Mary Sheppard Welch. He married Carolyn Sue (Upton) on Oct. 12, 1957, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 26, 2013. Chod loved visiting with grandkids, playing golf and boating. He served in the Army Reserves. Survivors include two sons, David and Connie Welch and Greg Welch, both of McLeansboro; three grandsons, Keith Welch and wife Savannah, Devan Welch and wife Misty and Jake Welch and wife Sarah, all of McLeansboro; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Don Welch of McLeansboro and Artie Welch of Enfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sue Welch; brother, Bud, a sister, Rita Pfister; and a grandson, Ross Welch. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until noon Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The family proceeded to the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Carmi where graveside services were conducted by the Rev. Larry Woodrow on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society and they will be accepted at the funeral home or by the family of Charles Welch. Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, is in charge of all the arrangements.
