Charles A. Schilling, 83, of Dahlgren, died 12:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon. He was born May 21, 1931, in Dahlgren, the son of Charles L. and Matilda (Thom) Schilling. He is survived by a sister, Dorothy Glatz of Belleville, a brother-in-law, Jack Karcher of Peoria; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Schilling was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leroy Schilling; and two sisters, Irma Karcher and Shirley Ewald. He was a retired faremer and loved dancing. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Dahlgren with Father Slowomir Ptak officiating. Interment was at St. John Cemetery in Dahlgren with military rites accorded by Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141. Visitation was Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Memorials may be made to the St. John's Cemetery fund and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home. Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren is in charge of arrangements
