Charles "Red"'s Story
Charles "Red" M. Morgan, 87, of Springfield, passed away at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at his residence.
Charles was born on July 3, 1929 in Mt. Vernon, IL, the son of Jim and Mabel (Bean) Morgan. He married Delores "Dee" Sinks on April 15, 1949 in Mt. Vernon. She preceded him in death on January 8, 2017.
Charles attended elementary school in a one room school house that he helped build. He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School. Charles worked as a baker, and he worked for Allis Chalmers, Producers Dairy, Swift & Company, and Sangamo Packing. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved hunting, fishing, and camping. Charles was an intelligent man who enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Charles Melvin Morgan II; and siblings, Noreen Arnold, George Alson Morgan, and James Lowell Morgan.
Charles is survived by three sons, Melvin Lynn (wife, Margie) Morgan of Petersburg, Jimmie Eugene (wife, Doretta) Morgan of Springfield, and Danny Dwane (wife, Kathy) Morgan of Middletown; one daughter, Karen Renee (husband, Dale) Milner of Springfield; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved dog, Buddy.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
Funeral Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with his nephew, Pastor Les Sinks, officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
