Charles Edward (Eddie) Myers, 82, went Home to be with His Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning, June 27, 2017, after an extended battle with cancer.
Ed was born on May 15, 1935, in Covington, Ind., to the late Horace B. and Ruby L. (Smail) Myers. Ed was a life resident of Covington and a graduate of Covington High School. He remained a super fan and supporter of Covington basketball. He also loved IU basketball, the Chicago Cubs, and the Indianapolis Colts for many years.
Ed married the love of his life, Janet Minnick, on Feb. 23, 1957. She survives. Ed and Janet were blessed with four children: Sandra (Greg Myers) of Covington; Daniel (Blanca) Myers of Kissimmee, Fla.; Michael "Kirby" (Sally) Myers of Annapolis, Md.; Jennifer
(Brad) Murray of Brownsburg, Ind. and one baby in heaven. Ed was also the proud grandpa of one granddaughter, Carissa (Fred) Booe; eight grandsons: Jonathan, Matthew and Andre Myers and Isaac, Brooks, Clark, Henry and Hudson Murray; as well as two step-granddaughters, Alex and Melissa Usma; and great-grandson, Bentley Booe; and one step-great-grandson, Jasiah. Ed deeply loved his family and was so loved by all. He was the rock of the family and love and laughter were the key ingredients of his home. Ed is also survived by his sister, Jackie (John) Bean of Ottawa, Ill. and one nephew and two nieces.
Ed served his country in the United States Army Reserve for six years. He worked as a boiler plant operator at Olin Mathieson and Veterans Administration Medical Center.
Anyone who knew Ed had no doubts of his legacy of faith of trust in the One True God and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a man of prayer and served faithfully as a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Danville, Illinois. Ed was a reliable, faithful, loving husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor. He will be greatly missed by all!
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Mark and a niece, Julie Tyndall. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. EDT, Friday, June 30, at Calvary Baptist Church, Georgetown Rd., Danville. Officiating his service will be his son, Kirby Myers. Graveside service in Mount Hope Cemetery, Covington, by Pastor Doug McCord with military services by the Army and Veedersburg American Legion. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. EDT on Thursday, June 29 also at Calvary Baptist.
The family is so grateful for all those who have selflessly served during this extended time of illness. We are also so thankful for Heartland Hospice who beautifully served these past three weeks.
Ed requested any contributions to be made to the Covington Community Foundation for the Covington High School Athletic Fund. Shelby Funeral Home is assisting the family. Condolences to the family: www.shelbyfuneralhome.com.
