Charles's Story

Charles Edward (Ed) Gunter, 72, of Eldorado, formerly of McLeansboro, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2014 at 3:15 p.m. in Ferrell Hospital, Eldorado, Ill. He was a retired farmer. Charles was born on June 14, 1942 to Charles F, and Frieda (Erkmann) Gunter in Hamilton County. He married Caroline Trausch, deceased and Alice Meyer who survives. Survivors are: his wife, Alice, one son: Robert Lee Gunter of Anderson, S.C. and two daughters: Katherine (Danny) Bible of Louisville, Ill. and Beverly (Teddy) Atkinson of McLeansboro, four brothers: Donald Gunter of McLeansboro, Daniel (Marlene) Gunter of Springerton, Fred Gunter of McLeansboro and David Gunter of McLeansboro, two sisters: Janet Veteto of McLeansboro and Ruby (Charles) Everett of McLeansboro. Four grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive. Funeral services were held Sept. 26, 2014 at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with Rev. Robert Sefried, Rev. Scott Pinkerton and Rev, Bill Duncan officiating. Burial was in Hopewell Cemetery near McLeansboro. He was preceded in death by his first wife, parents and one sister, Barbara Johnson. Memorials may be made to the VNA Hospice and will be accepted at the Gholson Funeral Home who is in charge of all of the arrangements.
