Mrs. Carolyn Johns Schafer (Bradlee), 69, passed away Friday, Oct. 20, 2017.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at a later date to allow family to travel.
Mrs. Schafer, the daughter of Robert Morton and Rega Zoe Bradlee (Johns), was born on Jan. 25, 1948, in Jacksonville, Fla. On July 12, 1967, Carolyn married her husband, Frank Schafer, in San Salvador, El Salvador.
Carolyn traveled many countries as a young girl with her family and developed a continuing feeling in her heart for the poor and underprivileged, especially children. She loved sharing stories of her travels in India, Haiti and El Salvador. She was a strong supporter of animal rights groups and loved horses.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John Bradlee; and a sister, Ina Jane (Masterson) Bradlee.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Schafer; sons, Robert (Julie) Schafer, of New Braunfels, Texas and Eric (Dawn) Schafer, of Greenville, N.C.; daughter, Kara Woodcroft (Craig) of Geneva, Switzerland; brothers, Jim Bradlee (Adela) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Michael Bradlee of San Francisco, Calif.; sister, Catherine A. Bradlee of Fallon, Nev.; grandchildren, Holden Woodcroft, Calla Woodcroft, Benjamin Schafer, Hudson Schafer, and Lincoln Schafer.
