Carolyn Kay Purple, 74, of Veedersburg, Ind., passed away at 6:29 p.m. EDT Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Carolyn was born September 23, 1943, the daughter of Munson and Helen McElwee.
She married Gene LeRoy Purple on April 16, 1965. He preceded her in death March 22, 2004. Her parents also have preceded her in death.
Surviving family include two sons, Bob (Julie) Purple, Jamestown, Ind., Kevin (Lisa) Purple, Kingman Ind.; a daughter, Kelly (Marlon) Carothers, Ft. Lupton, Colo.; two brothers, Bob (Gloria) McElwee and Jim (Joyce) McElwee, both of Veedersburg; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Carolyn graduated from Kingman High School in 1961, and was a member of Sterling Christian Church. She had retired from Steel-Grip in Danville, Ill., after many years of employment with the company.
She enjoyed crocheting, making candy, and taking care of her cats. She also was an avid collector of Indianapolis Colts and Coca-Cola memorabilia, and nutcrackers.
More than anything she loved and enjoyed her many grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. EDT Saturday, October 7, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Dave Sims officiating. Visitation will begin at noon EDT Saturday and continue until the time of service. Burial will follow service at Mt. Hope Cemetery near Covington.
