William H. “Bill” Abbott, 87, of McLeansboro, died at 12:52 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital. He was born June 6, 1927, in McLeansboro, a son of William Alpha Abbott and Ollie Ethel (Miller) Abbott. He married Barbara Jean Heimer on June 20, 1951, in Arkansas, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 2, 2012. He is survived by three daughters, Pamela Flannigan and husband Barry of McLeansboro, Martha Immel and husband Ron of Carmi and Barbara Lynn of Oscala, Fla.; one son, John Abbott and wife Sharon of McLeansboro; six grandchildren, Jessica (Abbott) Ellis and husband Jody, Milissa (Flannigan) Thrane, Emily Williams and husband Ryan, Laramie Immel and Patrick and Colton Flannigan; four great-grandchildren, Bret Allen McCarty Jr., Brady Thrane, Raynie Johnson and Hadley Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, John Robert and Franklin D. Abbott; and five sisters, Catherine Cremeens, Pauline Jones, Lula Mae Bowers, Annabell Draper and Emma Jane Smith Flick. Mr. Abbott was a tank truck driver in the oil field. He was a member of the Second Missionary Baptist Church of McLeansboro and served in the U.S. Army. He loved rabbit hunting and yard work. He worked at Brownsville “Pride House.” Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Burial will be in Brush Harbor Cemetery in McLeansboro. Graveside military services will be provided by American Legion Post 106 in McLeansboro. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and will be accepted at the Harre Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
