Betty Marie Lipps, 88, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 4:05 P.M. November 9, 2017 at Green Tree at Mount Vernon. She was born July 19, 1929 in Mount Vernon to the late Roy and Beulah (Lawrence) Atkinson. Betty married William Robert Lipps on February 8, 1949 at Faith United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon. They were blessed with 68 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on February 26, 2017.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Kyle Bevis and husband, Mike of Mount Vernon, Illinois; son, Carey Lipps and special friend, Brenda of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Charity Brandon and husband, Chad of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Amber Ort and husband, Shane of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Aaron Bevis of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Kenzie Brown of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Chet Lipps and special friend, Whitney Garretson of Dix, Illinois, and Jake Lipps of Saint Louis, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Ethan Bevis, Riley Bevis, Daven Ort, Cadynce Ort, Maddox Ort, Liam Brandon, Bennett Brandon, Rayci Brown, Madyson Lipps, and Gage Lipps; brother, Roy Atkinson and wife, Valee of Heath, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her infant brother, Bobby Atkinson.
Betty was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church. She was a Senior Saint and a member of Main Street Theater. Betty was awarded Outstanding Woman of Illinois. She was the Founder of Angels on Assignment and First Day Singers. Betty had a special interest in genealogy, astrology, the arts, and humanities.
A visitation will be held Monday, November 13, 2017 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Service time at First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend David Eadie officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Angels on Assignment.
