Betty Lasater, 92, of McLeansboro, formerly of Broughton, died at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017.
She was born on November 11, 1924, in Broughton, Illinois. She was the daughter of Thomas and Myrtle Pennington. She married Claude "Hammer" Lasater on January 31, 1946. He preceded her in death in 2009.
Mrs. Lasater is survived by two daughters, Karla Lee and husband David of Fairview Heights and Penny Lee and husband Roger of McLeansboro; a grandson, Darren Hayter and wife Robbie of Lebanon, Tennessee; two step grandchildren, Darin Lee and wife Gina of Maryville and Denise Dismukes and husband Mark of O' Fallon; a great-grandson, Andrew Hayter; five step great-grandchildren, Lacy, Kyle, Kelsey, Jackson and Danielle; two great-great grandsons; a niece, Sharon (Sam) Gholson; and a nephew, Mike (Debbie) Pennington, and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Chloe Carter and a brother James Pennington. She will be missed by her family.
Mrs. Lasater served as the assistant Broughton Post Master and Broughton Village Clerk for several years. She was a member of the Broughton Methodist Church.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the Gholson Funeral Home with burial at Hickory Hill Cemetery. Bonnie Phillips and Rev. Jim Peak will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
Memorials may be made to the New Hickory Hill Cemetery Fund and will be accepted at the Gholson Funeral Home.
