Betty's Story

Betty passed away peacefully on April 19th in Ann Arbor, MI., following a brief illness.She was born on March 18, 1931 in Danville, IL., the daughter of Roy and Ella (Groeninger) Carter, deceased. Betty graduated from Danville High School in 1949. On August 31, 1952 she married Harold E. Arnett, who preceded her in death in 2011.In the early 1970's, she was elected as an Elder at the Westminster Presbyterian Church and then Clerk of Session. She served as President of the Faculty Women's Club at the University of Michigan from 1991-1992, and President of the Ann Arbor Women's City Club from 1993-1994. Betty was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, Bible Study Class for 25 years, and a member of the Women's City Club.Being a kind, soft spoken person, Betty deeply loved her family and large circle of friends. She had a lovely sense of humor and always had a kind word to say. Some of her many passions were traveling the world, reading, gardening, knitting and word search puzzles. All those who knew her will forever remember and treasure their time spent with her.Survivors include her sons John (Catherine) Arnett, Sr., Carl (Dreama) Arnett , and a daughter, Melia (John) Himich, and Grandchildren John (Sarah) Arnett, Jr., Michael Arnett, Roy Arnett, and 1 niece and 2 nephews. Betty's brothers, Charles and William Carter, sister Ruby Carter Brooks, and Grand Daughter Clarise Arnett preceded her in death.A memorial service is scheduled for June 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1500 Scio Church Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48103In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Westminster Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
