Bernice McCullough Mother Bernice Brown McCullough, 88, of Danville, went to be with the Lord at 2:30 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2019.
Bernice was born August 30, 1930, in Doerun, Ga., the daughter of Booker T. and Christine Kilpatrick Brown.
Her hobbies were fishing, making pillows and spending time with family and friends.
She obtained her CNA Certificate at DACC and worked at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home. Bernice also taught Headstart for the Community Action Agency.
Bernice was a founding member and Church Mother at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where she loved to sing and cook.
She was united in marriage to the late Frank J. McCullough Sr. on November 22, 1953, in Tallahassee, Fla. He preceded her in death on April 29, 1990.
She leaves to cherish her memories four daughters, Sandra (Thomas) Goings Jr., Denise McCullough, Valerie (Timothy) Leek Sr. and Tassie (Mark) Young Sr., all of Danville; five sons, Edward J. (Phearn) Butler, Rev. Frank (Mary Ann) McCullough Jr., Tommie (Twana) McCullough, Carl McCullough Sr. and Donald Holmes, all of Danville, Travis (Lashawnda) McCullough Sr. of Smyrna, Tenn.; a brother, Johnny T. (Maude) Brown of Rochester, N.Y.; a special cousin, George (Shirley) Taylor of Darlington, S.C.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Bernice was preceded by her parents; husband; a daughter, Sonia C. Hillsman; a grandson, Travis L. McCullough Jr.; a granddaughter, Ta Breyon McCullough; a sister, Melissa Allen; and a brother, Rev. Raymond T. Brown Sr.
A Homegoing Celebration will commence at 11 a.m. Friday, February 8, at Greater Shiloh Baptist Church, 609 N. Bowman. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Officiating: Bishop James Jackson. Interment will be at Danville National Cemetery. Visitation will also be 3-6 p.m. Thursday, February 7, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 428 N. Washington Ave., with a one-hour celebration service beginning at 5 p.m.
