Barbara Jean Unger, 83 of LaSalle, Ill., passed away Monday, November 20, 2017, at her home, with close family members by her side.
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Monday, November 27, at Pape Family Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams St., Danville, with graveside services to follow. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Spring Hill Cemetery.
Barb was born August 11, 1934, in Westville to Joseph and Blanche (Jones) Masulis.
She attended St. Patrick and Fairchild grade schools, and graduated from Schlarman High School. Barbara loved to bowl, and was on numerous leagues throughout the years. She enjoyed watching "Perry Mason" and "The Golden Girls," doing her crossword puzzles and sharing the holidays with her family. She was known as "Mrs. Christmas," as that was her favorite holiday.
Barb married Wendell Duncan and they had two children, Sandra and Russell. She later married Warren Unger in 1967 and the two shared 43 years together before his death in 2010.
Barbara worked at R & S Printing until the 1980s, and later Blackford Printing, from which she retired in 1987.
Barb was blessed to have an angel for a granddaughter who was always there for her. Her great-grandson Kevin also was sent to her and helped care for her until her last days. "Gigi," as they called her, was always surrounded by such loving grandchildren and caretakers. Theresa Wolf also was a gift from above, and has been with Barb for the past seven years, and loved her as her own family.
Barb leaves behind her daughter, Sandi (Bob) Wright; four grandchildren, Amber Wright-Townsend (Kevin), Robert (Angela) Wright, Ryan Duncan and Russell Duncan; and five great-grandsons, Kevin and Tyler Townsend, and Isaac, Mason and Carter Wright. She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands; her son, Russell Duncan; her brothers, Robert, Thomas and Ronald Masulis; and two sisters, Frances Rowley and Beatrice Bowman.
Messages and memories may be left on our website at www.papefuneral.com, or on the Pape Family Funeral Home Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to LaSalle Fire Department.
