Events

Barbara Eva Gerard, born in Cayuga, Ind., a former resident of Clearwater, Fla., currently from Cumming, Ga., went to be with Jesus on June 8, 2019.
She was born to Chauncey and Lula Hack on April 4,1929, in their home in rural Indiana. Barbara graduated from Cayuga High School and pursued her dreams of becoming a teacher at the Indiana State Teachers College in Terre Haute, Ind., now known as Indiana State University.
Barbara married Paul Gerard on December 21, 1947, after her first semester of college.
Serving in the Navy, Paul was stationed in Kodiak, Alaska, where Barbara began her first teaching position. Even during that first year, her natural teaching ability caught the attention of the community. The superintendent of schools wrote to her parents in Indiana to advise them of her exemplary work and the wonderful asset she was to their school.
Paul and Barbara moved to Florida with their two children Pamela and Paul in 1956. Their third child, Penni, was born in Florida. Barbara taught first grade for 20 years in the Pinellas County School system, where she received the award of Teacher of the Year in Ozona, Fla.
Barbara and Paul were active in Clearwater First Church of the Nazarene. Barbara taught both high school and young married Bible studies, and sang in the choir. Together, Paul and Barb led the youth group and entertained frequently in their home. Barbara was a voracious reader until the time of her passing.
Barbara is survived by Paul, her husband of 71 years; daughter, Pamela, and her husband, Doug Runyan; son, Pauly, and his wife, Gayla Gerard; daughter, Penni, and husband, Brian Arner; grandchildren, Jason Runyan, Lauren and Mark Snodgrass, Ashley and Quincy Pickering, Lea Gerard, Lou and Melissa Gerard, Lyle and Jessica Gerard, Lawson and Sara Gerard, Chauncey and Maisen Arner, Cobey Arner; great-grandchildren, Dietrich, Eleanora "Nora," and Jude Runyan, Paul and Luke Snodgrass, Henley, Chatwin, and Savoy Pickering, Steele and Axel Rader, Landon "Shug," and Juliet "Jules" Gerard, Westin Gerard, Brooks Gerard.
