AL Mackey of Danville, was born in Broken Bow, Okla., on June 3, 1925, the son of Joe and Annie Lee Henderson Mackey.
On November 17, 2017, at the age of 92, he passed from this life into the arms of his Heavenly Father.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 22 years of serving his country. AL never met a stranger. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. AL was known by many as "Uncle AL" and "Mr. Mackey." He formerly owned AL's Car Beauty Shop in Canton, Ill., and Danville and worked for the VA Illiana Health Care System.
AL was united in marriage to Harriet Spotser. After her passing, he later married Lyvonne B. Brown. She also preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory his only living sibling, Odean Leek of Danville; a son, David Mackey; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
AL was preceded by his parents; three brothers, Sam Mackey, OL Mackey, Ray Mackey; and four sisters, Margaret Cutright, Mary Criner, Lucille Gullatt and Evelyn Green.
A Homegoing Celebration will commence at noon Friday, November 24, at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Officiating: Pastor Thomas W. Miller. Interment will be at Danville National Cemetery.
